Nattu Adavu

Meaning:  To stretch and root/perch on your heel

Mandala :   Aramandi (Ayatha), Prenkhana, Swastika, Sthanaka, ekapada and motita

Hasta’s   :  Tripataka, Katakhamukha, Alapadma, pataka and avahita

Solkattu  :  Tai yum tat ta | tai yum | ta ha ||

 

Adavu 1

Hands in natyarambha position with tripathaka

Tai : stretch to prenkhana on the right  foot with right palm

facing upwards
Yum : stamp on the flat of the right foot back to ayata with

right palm facing downwards
Tat ta : repeat the movement starting from the left

​Tai Yum ta ha : ( is same as tai yum tat ta)

Adavu 2

Same as Adavu 1 but twice on each side

Adavu 3

Hands in natyarambha position with tripathaka

Tai : Stamp to prenkhana on the right with right arm moving

to natyarambha palm facing upwards
Yum : stamp on the flat of the right foot back to ayata with

right palm facing downwards
Tat ta : repeat the movement starting from left foot
Tai : cross the right foot behind the left and stamp on the ball

(swastika) . Right hand to be in front of the chest with

palm facing up .
Yum : stamp on the flat of the left foot with right palm facing

down
Ta : stretch to prenkhana on the right foot with right arm

moving to natyarambha position palm facing upwards
Ha : stamp on the flat of the right foot back to ayata with right

palm facing downwards

Repeat above starting from the left

Adavu 4

Hands in natyarambha position with katakamukha

Tai : prenkhana to the front with both hands parallel to each

other reaching towards the lifted right foot in alapadma
Yum :  stamp on the flat of the left foot
Tat : stamp on the flat of the right foot with hands moving

back to starting position
Ta : stamp on the flat of the left foot
Tai yum ta ha : as in adavu 1

Repeat above starting from the left

Adavu 5

Hands in natyarambha position with katakamukha

Tai : prenkhana to the front with both hands parallel to each other

reaching towards the lifted foot in alapadma
Yum : stamp on the flat of the left foot
Tat : stamp on the flat of the right foot with hands moving back to the

starting position
Ta : stamp on the flat of the left foot
Tai : cross the right foot behind the left foot in swastika . Right hand to

be stretched above the head from right side in tripathaka
Yum : stamp on the flat of the left foot
Ta : stretch to prenkhana on the right side with right palm facing upwards
Ha : stamp on the flat of the right foot back to ayata with right palm facing down
Repeat above starting from the left

Adavu 6

Hands in natyarambha position with katakamukha

Tai : prenkhana to the right with both hands  in alapadma in a diagonal

line with right arm stretched towards right foot
Yum : stamp on the flat of the left foot
Tat : turn the stretched right foot inwards to hit on the ball with hands

in katakamukha
Ta : stamp on the flat of the left foot
Tai : prenkhana to the front with both hands parallel to each other

reaching towards the lifted foot in alapadma
Yum : stamp on the flat of the left foot
Ta : stamp on the flat of the right foot with hands moving back to

starting position
Ha : stamp on the flat of the left foot

Repeat above starting from the left

Adavu 7

Hands in natyarambha position with tripathaka

Tai : stretch to prenkhana on the right diagonal with right arm

stretching towards the lifted foot
Yum : stamp on the flat of the left foot
Tat : cross the right foot behind the left foot (swastika) and stamp on

the ball . Right hand stretched above the hand from right side
Ta : stamp on the flat of the left foot
Tai Yum Ta  ha    : as in adavu 2 on the right

Adavu 8

Hands in front of the chest with katakamukha

Tai : prenkhana to the front with right leg, right hand in alapadma

stretched towards the right foot and left hand stretched back in alapadma ( arms in diagonal line)

Yum : stamp on the flat of the left foot

Tat : cross the right foot behind to left foot and stamp on the ball ( swastika ) . Hands to move above the head held in pashahasta

Ta : stamp on the flat of the left foot

Tai : stamp on the right foot in sthanaka with hands moving to natyarambha position

Yum : stamp on the flat of the left foot lifting right foot to assume ekapada posture with hands in avahitta

Ta ha : both feet on the ball of the foot in full mandi with hands in natyarambha position
